Youth Learn to Row in 2024!

New 4-week program from July 28-August 18th!

Are you 12-17 years old and have ever wanted to learn to row?

    • Are you looking for something to do?
    • Looking for a hobby that has a strong sense of belonging and teamwork and encourages diversity and inclusivity?
    • Did you watch Boys in the Boat or read Lessons in Chemistry and wonder what all the fuss is about?
    • Maybe you’re interested in rowing during high school or rowing in college?
    • Do you like the idea of rowing but wonder if you are athletic enough or coordinated enough?

Spokane River Rowing is an inclusive rowing club that values community, friendship, diversity, health, and fun, and we want to help you get on the water with us.

Join our Youth Learn to Row (ages 12-17) classes on Silver Lake this Summer and gain the skills to row all summer long. The Learn to Row series will consist of once-per-week classes for 4 weeks, Sundays from 8:00am-11:00am.

You will learn the basics of rowing crew-style boats and get out on the water in 4- or 8-person rowing shells. We will teach the rowing stroke and how to move the boats efficiently through the water.

Who:  No previous rowing experience necessary. Ability to swim is important but not required (life vests will be provided). Ability to overhead lift is helpful. Some adaptive assistance can be provided. All registrants must be 12-17 years older by the end of 2024.

You might be nervous about trying, worried about learning a new activity and meeting lots of new people.  Nearly all body types and abilities can row and have a blast doing it and our rowing team is very friendly and accepting.  Come find a place of belonging on our rowing team.  Come learn this amazing activity and find a place to make friends and build community!

After the Learn To Row, we are developing youth rowing at least once per week, possibly more depending on interest. Additionally, some schools in the area are interested in developing indoor rowing clubs
